Rooted in Bakersfield.

Dr. Karan Srivastava grew up in northeast Bakersfield and graduated from Garces Memorial High School in 2006. After leaving home for college and medical training, he returned to Kern County with a clear goal: to build an orthopedic practice where patients could receive specialized care without having to leave the Central Valley.

His path into medicine began at the University of Miami, where he studied biology and chemistry and graduated summa cum laude. He continued at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and was selected for the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, a national honor recognizing academic excellence, leadership, and professionalism in medicine.

“For many patients, orthopedic care is about more than fixing a joint. It is about getting back to work, family, independence, and the parts of life they have been missing.”

Specialized training in joint replacement.

Dr. Srivastava completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Henry Ford Health System in Michigan, where he trained in general orthopedics and orthopedic trauma. He then pursued fellowship training at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, focusing on anterior hip replacement and robotic-assisted total joint replacement.

Today, his practice includes anterior hip replacement, total knee replacement, partial knee replacement, fracture care, and general orthopedic conditions affecting the hip, knee, and lower extremity.

A practical, patient-first approach.

Dr. Srivastava believes the best treatment plan starts with listening. Some patients need surgery, but many benefit from a step-by-step approach that may include activity changes, medication, injections, physical therapy, or other non-surgical options before an operation is considered.

When surgery is the right choice, he focuses on helping patients understand what to expect before, during, and after the procedure. His goal is to make the process clear, personal, and centered on each patient’s life — not just their imaging results.

Coming home to serve the Central Valley.

After completing fellowship training, Dr. Srivastava returned to his hometown to establish the Joint & Bone Institute of California. The practice was built around a simple idea: patients in Bakersfield, Delano, Porterville, and nearby communities should have access to high-quality orthopedic care close to home.

Through JBI, he and his team provide orthopedic care across multiple Central Valley locations, with an emphasis on clear communication, timely appointments, and treatment plans that fit the patient.

Outside the operating room.

Away from the clinic and operating room, Dr. Srivastava enjoys spending time with his wife and family. He is an avid cook, likes discovering new places along the California coast, and remains a loyal sports fan — especially when football, baseball, or basketball is on.
